Hanging in our office are strange signs like, "A kiss after a kick", "All cats are grey in the dark", and "Call a spade when it's a spade". Interesting.

those are weird sayings, but i bet if they came here it would be like you going there. we would have very different sayings though.
Maybe it means love after a hard time, or happiness after being sad, i think it makes sense.
